During the 70's and 80's The home served as residence and studio to
the world renown contemporary folk artist Warren Kimble.
Post Warren Kimble and pre-Rosebelle's Victorian Inn the property and home was host to the former
Beauchamp Place bed & breakfast.
History buffs: will appreciate that the main house and carriage barn were instrumental and recognized as a safe haven for
runaway fugitives during the Underground Railroad Era.
In
fact the entire village of Brandon was well known for expediting
the cause of fugitives as local homeowners offered safe space
in their dwellings.
Historic Brandon is the birthplace of
Stephen A. Douglas born 1813, recognized as the "little
giant" of national politics, a noted prohibitionist and
skillful orator. Stephen Douglas achieved his career heights
in 1858, during the famous debates with his opponent Abraham
Lincoln. |
